The seven things to know before you rely on this site

1. Paycheck calculators give estimates, not exact paychecks.

2. We are not the IRS, SSA, DOL, or any state tax authority.

3. We do not give individualized tax, legal, or financial advice.

4. Tax tables change every year — sometimes mid-year.

5. We are not a CPA, enrolled agent, attorney, or payroll provider.

6. Your state consumer-protection rights are unaffected.

7. Statutory liability is preserved. Nothing limits liability that cannot be excluded under law.

1. Nature of the Site

paycheck-calculators.org/ is an independent publisher of free, browser-based U.S. paycheck calculators. We are NOT:

  • the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Social Security Administration (SSA), the U.S. Department of Labor, or the Bureau of Labor Statistics
  • any state department of revenue or taxation
  • a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), enrolled agent, tax preparer, or other tax professional
  • an attorney, law firm, or provider of legal services
  • a financial advisor, broker-dealer, or registered investment adviser
  • a payroll provider, employer, or human-resources service
  • an authorized representative or agent of any agency or employer

2. Not the IRS or Any Agency

For an actual tax filing, a withholding adjustment, a wage-and-hour question, a benefits decision, or any binding answer, the route is the agency itself or a licensed professional — not paycheck-calculators.org/.

We describe and apply the publicly-available formulas. We do not file returns, issue paychecks, change your withholding, certify any figure, or speak for any government body.

3. Why Every Output Is an Estimate

What a calculator can and cannot know

Our paycheck calculators use the standard published formulas — IRS Publication 15-T withholding methods, FICA at the SSA-published wage base, FLSA overtime rules, and each state’s published bracket or flat rate. A calculator cannot know your full picture: itemized deductions, particular credits (Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, education credits, Saver’s Credit), Alternative Minimum Tax exposure, capital-gain treatment, prior-year carryforwards, multi-state situations, every local (city/county) tax, employer-specific benefits, retirement-account limits, HSA/FSA interactions, or one-off life events. So the result is a strong working estimate — not a substitute for a real filing.

4. Tax Rates and Tables Change

Always check the “Rates current as of” stamp before relying on a figure

Federal tax brackets are inflation-indexed each year; the Social Security wage base is set annually by the SSA; the standard deduction shifts; state rates and brackets change on their own schedules; the FLSA salary-threshold for the overtime exemption changes; and the IRS sometimes issues mid-year corrections. We carry a “Rates current as of” date on every calculator and update on the IRS/SSA/state schedule.

5. Not Tax, Legal, or Financial Advice

Nothing on this site is tax, legal, or financial advice. For your actual paycheck, return, withholding election, salary negotiation, retirement-savings decision, or wage-and-hour dispute, consult:

  • A licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or IRS-enrolled agent for tax matters
  • The IRS at irs.gov or 1-800-829-1040 for federal-tax questions
  • Your state department of revenue / taxation for state-tax questions
  • The U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division at dol.gov/agencies/whd for FLSA, overtime, and minimum-wage matters
  • Your employer’s payroll department for paycheck-specific questions
  • A licensed financial advisor or fiduciary for investment and retirement-planning decisions
  • A licensed attorney for legal questions

6. Your Consumer-Rights Position

Your state consumer-protection rights are unaffected

If you buy a service from a third party you find through our site, your transaction is with that third party — not with us. Your state's Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices (UDAP) statute and federal consumer-protection law (FTC Act Section 5) protect you. paycheck-calculators.org/ is not party to that transaction. For a deceptive-practice concern, contact your state Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau at bbb.org, and the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov. For consumer-finance complaints, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is at consumerfinance.gov.

7. Third-Party Content and Links

The site links to and references material from the IRS, the SSA, the U.S. Department of Labor, the BLS, state tax authorities, and other third parties. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.

8. Accuracy and Verification

We build calculators against the official, current sources — IRS Publication 15-T, SSA wage-base announcements, FLSA rules in 29 CFR Part 778, and each state’s published rates. A human editor verifies every formula and every rate update against the official source before it goes live. We are nevertheless a publisher of estimates, not a tax authority.

If a rate or formula on our site disagrees with the IRS, SSA, DOL, or state agency, the agency is authoritative

Tell us — we re-verify and update, usually within 48 hours for a confirmed rate or formula error.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE U.S. LAW, we are not liable for any indirect, consequential, special, or incidental loss arising from your use of the site or your reliance on any content — specifically including but not limited to any tax underpayment or overpayment, any IRS or state penalty or interest, any salary-negotiation outcome, any retirement-planning decision, or any other financial outcome arising from reliance on a calculator output. Aggregate liability to any user is capped at one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).

Nothing in this Disclaimer or our Terms of Use limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable U.S. law — including liability for fraud or anything else state law preserves. Your statutory consumer-protection rights under your state’s UDAP statute are unaffected.
